Gridiron Corner

It is said that racing is the "sport of kings", and boxing the "sport of gentlemen".  (Because nothing is as gentlemanly as wrapping your jacket around your fist and punching a complete stranger in the forehead...)  If so, then American football is the "sport of serial assault".  Legendary coach Vince Lombardi, the man for whom the Super Bowl trophy is named, once said:  "Football is not a contact sport.  It is a collision sport.  If you want a contact sport, try ballroom dancing."  Beautiful!

Now, don't get me wrong:  I loves me some American football.  Even though I reside outside of the US, to me this game epitomises the lengths to which a man will go to prove he is better than the man across from him.  Simultaneously awesome, and also the reason why we, as a species, are doomed...  But, ja, since I tend to go on diatribes about the happenings in the NFL, and that doesn't fit with the rest of the vibe around here, AM footie, as I like to call it, gets its own page.  Check in here periodically for ramblings about the king of sports...
